I always thought other women had “pretty privilege” and that everything just came easy to them…and for some reason whenever I looked at them I just immediately thought they were better than me. So, I brought this into my relationships…
I got into relationships with men who didn’t care about me.
I mean, why would I expect someone else to care about me if I didn’t care about myself?
Soon the thread I was hanging by…

I fell into an endless cycle of toxic relationships with men who always thought they were better than me.

I gave them the authority and power to choose if I was good for them or not.

I continued to live every day of my life trying to change myself to become the “perfect version” that I thought they wanted.

The little thread I was hanging by broke and I started falling into one horrible relationship after another with men who take advantage of the fact that I’m relying on their validation to make myself feel better.
I constantly felt suffocated in my grey world…where it seemed like I was going to end up like the weird cat lady in the Simpsons cartoon...

I had tried every self-help hack and tip and tricks build emotional intimacy, and trust, to try and re-ignite sexual intimacy.
I've even tried to get each other to be vulnerable, the list goes on…
But I always found myself in a never-ending cycle of being manipulated, always being called names, and every time we tried to resolve an issue I would be avoided…
I found myself stuck searching for answers.
Inside the article was a psychologist & M.D. from Yale University Aaron Beck theorized in the 1970s that negative thought patterns, which he labelled as "negative schemas," can reinforce negative actions.

This can create a vicious cycle where negative thoughts worsen negative emotions, and vice versa, leading to poor mental health, increased insecurities, depression, finding yourself in toxic relationships, etc [1].
As soon as I understood that constantly reinforcing negative actions had become a habit, I went deep into how the brain forms habits, good or bad.
This was when I finally understood why every self-help tip, trick, coaching session, therapy, and compromising tactic failed to change mine and most people's lives

Inside the PFC there is something called the Infralimbic Cortex IL…
These 2 parts of the brain are responsible for how you react to the world and which emotion you choose to have…

Like when you get a slight sense of tension you shut yourself away from your partner.
Let me explain this in simpler terms (I hope you're paying attention:)
Picture your brain as a complex control centre that manages your thoughts, emotions, and reactions.
The prefrontal cortex (PFC) in your brain is like the CEO, making decisions and guiding your actions based on what it thinks is best for you based on past experiences.
When you go through trauma, especially in your childhood, early dating life, or even past relationships, it's like a disruption that affects how the CEO (your PFC) operates.
This trauma can reshape the brain's wiring, making it tougher for the PFC to manage emotions, handle stress, and make healthy relationship choices.
In the context of your toxic relationships, this can manifest as a tendency to repeat patterns or end up in harmful situations.
The trauma might mess up your view of what's normal or acceptable, making it challenging for the PFC to recognize warning signs or to respond in a way that protects your mental health only to realize it when it gets bad to the point of no return
And the thing is - Your trauma has been reinforced sooo much that you sub-consciously find a way to attract toxic & unhealthy relationships.
So, you somehow find yourself repeating toxic habits from past relationships or finding men who don't respect you, looking for validation, not feeling comfortable in your own skin, etc…
That is why you keep finding yourself repeating toxic behaviours in a relationship, finding men that are not good for your mental health, and constantly looking for validation or always blaming yourself for the troubles that happen in a relationship.

Why is it often easier for younger people to pick up new habits or break old ones compared to adults, even though adults have more life experience and knowledge?
Think of it this way:
When you're young, your brain is like play-dough, really flexible, and open to making new shapes easily.
That's why kids can learn habits quickly.
But as you grow up, your brain gets more like clay that's been shaped already—it's harder to change because it's settled into its ways.
So, kids' brains are quicker to adapt, making it easier for them to learn new habits, while adults' brains have already made lots of habits, which can be tougher to change.
